Maritime Fellowship Award
for a lifetime contribution in a chosen sector of the maritime industries
This year the Maritime Foundation has created an additional Award – the Maritime Fellowship Award to honour an individual for a lifetime contribution in a chosen sector of the maritime industries.
The first Maritime Fellowship Award will be made in the marine leisure sector.
The British Marine Federation (BMF), the trade association for the leisure marine industry, has generously agreed to be the sponsor and to select the winner under the following arrangement:
- The BMF Management Board make nominations, a panel comprising the President, Vice President, Chief Executive and Executive Director will shortlist four candidates, and the Management Board will select the winner from the shortlist.
- All nominees must have at least 20 years’ experience in the marine leisure industries and
must have made a notable contribution in this sector.
- The prize is a Hand-blown English crystal bowl with detachable hand made hallmarked sterling silver base and cheque for £1000 to the winner’s chosen charity.
The UK leisure and small commercial marine industry is worth almost £3 billion and employs over 35,000 people in both the seagoing and inland sectors, which cover the leisure boat, hire fleet, commercial workboat and superyacht categories and supporting services. The BMF Mission Statement reads as follows:
We will create, develop and resource high quality services, benefits and commercial activities to promote our industry and its products and work with our members to achieve sustainable growth in a multinational environment.
The sector’s major showcases, the London and PSP Southampton Boat Shows, are organised by the Federation’s wholly-owned subsidiary, National Boat Shows Ltd. These annual exhibitions provide support to members and also an opportunity to reach the public with important messages about career development and participation in boating.
