Desmond Wettern Maritime Media Award

for Best Journalistic Contribution

Desmond Wettern Maritime Media AwardThe Award is made to the writer, broadcaster, media person or similar figure who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, has made the most constructive contribution to generating public awareness of Britain’s current maritime issues during the qualifying period.

In making its award, the Awards Committee will consider

  • the significance of issues chosen;
  • the range and depth of analysis;
  • the quality of assessments concerning the future;
  • the originality of the work; and
  • its impact on maritime policy, public awareness and individual commitment.

The main focus for this award is maritime journalism – whether in newspapers, periodicals, specialist journals or technical publications – that

  • sustains an authoritative approach to promoting maritime awareness;
  • causes the significance of maritime events to be reported in different media; and
  • contributes to a wider understanding of maritime issues, including political issues.

The winner may be selected for their work in any media format, written, oral, or visual.

The prize is an engraved crystal decanter and a cheque for £1,000.
